On rage and resignation
Rage and Resignation.
What a strange, draining combo of feelings.
I am shocked but not surprised.
Furious but also stoic.
Exasperated and exhausted.
Want to scream and shout, but can only muster the energy to sigh.
Ann Friedman wrote in her fantastic newsletter that she is “shrugging with rage,”
and I am, too.
We are tired. Bone tired.
And that is exactly how they want us.
So:
while we must rage against this relentless white patriarchal machine,
while we must build our own support networks,
we also must conjure up the energy to do all this.
That means saying No to the everyday bullshit that exhausts us.
Just No.
That means eating and sleeping and loving our bodies.
Actual meals. Naps. Movement that feels physically good.
That means seeing and rejecting all the ways we've internalized the message that our bodies must be controlled.
Fuck Whole30, keep your “extra” 10 pounds, free up all that mental energy, time, and space.
Seriously:
no matter what SCROTUS says,
We Exist at Choice.
So let's choose ourselves - our bodies - again and again and again.
Let's remember the revolution requires energy,
and The Man wants us exhausted.
Let's learn to rest, guiltlessly.
Let's forge our homes, our workplaces, our very own minds
into places that we can be free.
love,
Natalie
