What will you do with your wild and precious light?
Dear friend,
In my best priestess voice, I wish you a BLESSED SOLSTICE.
Yes, it's today!
Our biannual reminder that the central axis
of the small sphere of earth, water, air, and fire
that we call home
tilts at a 23.5 degree angle as it orbits the Sun.
In the Northern Hemisphere, we are drenched in so much sunlight;
in the Southern Hemisphere, we are plunged into sweet darkness.
I always feel called on both solstices
to honor the connection between my light and the Sun's light.
Between my own expression of life-force
and our central star's sustenance of life-force.
I love to remember:
we are generous and generative, the Sun and I.
We are miracles.
*
I love to remember:
though it seems that we will be here forever,
the Sun and I, just like this,
we will not.
Though from our perspective, all the worlds revolve around us,
they do not.
*
I love to remember:
this life-force light, both inside and out,
is far more essential than all that we've built here on Planet Earth,
so much of which mis-uses and disrespects its power.
All the businesses
the marriages
the school systems
the healthcare infrastructure (and lack thereof)
the governments
the buildings
the 40/50/60 hour work weeks?
All that can change.
Must change.
How?
Poet/activist Oak Chezar writes
"What will save us?
Not profit-driven technology
and not imperial force.
Only the imagination.
What can you imagine?"
That is:
how else can we live?
What else can we create?
Whether you find yourself drenched in light
or plunged into darkness,
now is the time to ask these questions.
And better: to dare to answer them with all your light.
love,
Natalie
