You are who you meet.
Hello from California, everyone!
OHMYGOSH it's so beautiful here.
I have been eating the best food,
and enjoying the loveliest weather,
and hiking around LA (who knew?!),
and living my best life.
Not least because I've been here to gather with
the best,
most inspiring,
most badass,
most excellent and brilliant and generous
women.
I am telling you these are WORLD-CHANGING WOMEN.
So I'm here to hope
that this is true:
We are who we meet.
You've probably heard the saying:
You are the average of the five people with whom you spend the most time.
Turns out there are studies that show that this is true,
and even that the friends of our friends
affect how we show up in the world.
It's been so obvious to me this week:
being with insightful, bold women
bolsters my own thoughtfulness
and courage.
Staying with my good friend
who lives so well,
who sweetly balances rest and play, discipline and pleasure
encourages ME to live well, too.
So:
With whom do you surround yourself?
What do these people talk and care about?
What do they believe about life?
How do they move through the world?
What sorts of things do y'all do together?
Are you so grateful to incorporate
the values
and conversations
and examples
they offer
into who you are becoming?
I hope so!
But if not, here's some truth
that came across my Facebook feed
(because even online
I surround myself
with badass women):
After all,
you're contributing
to other people's averages
too.
